Merc Electric Vehicles Next Year

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:30 AM PDT

A new generation line-up of vehicles from the Mercedes Benz stables will be electric. A joint venture between Daimler and Robert Bosch GmbH points to such a probability. As per the JV agreement, Daimler is looking to rope in Robert Bosch's expertise in developing electric motors for the new line up.

Though news of the joint venture is out, the details happen to be very sketchy. What we get to know is that Daimler and Bosch have inked a letter of intent on a 50-50 partnership.  This is expected to put on track efforts aimed at development of electric motors.

It is being forecast that electric motor production will get kicked off during the first part of 2012. These motors will be incorporated into Mercedes vehicles that will roll out later next year.

It is likely that the first Merc electric vehicle to use the new electric motors could be the B-Class E-Cell and SLS AMG E-Cell (see gallery). However, no confirmation has come in this regard. Stay tuned.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu to Get into Production in Jan 2012

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 10:07 AM PDT

The next-generation Chevy Malibu has been keeping us in anticipation for quite some time now, right? As if answering our prayers for a speedier arrival of the model, GM is giving an accelerated thought to the plan. We hear the car maker has put the production of the model on fast track.

So, that means the production of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will get underway in January net year. Now that is welcome news as we had earlier been told that the car would get into production only during May 2012.  If the January 2012 deadline is met, we guess we will be able to see the car hit retail sometime later next year.

GM is said to be mulling over getting the Malibu assembled at their US plants. The car could get a shape at the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas and GM’s Hamtramck facility in Detroit.

In all probability, the new upcoming Chevrolet Malibu could get showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19. And then it could travel to the New York auto show on April 21.

BMW Reveals New M5: Goodbye V10, Hello Twin-Turbo V8

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 05:01 AM PDT

Although BMW are still calling this a “concept”, we think its fair to say that you are looking at the new M5.

For whatever reason, this car seems to define this sector of ballistic German super saloons. While the E63 AMG is an incredible machine, no doubt, and the Audi RS6 with that dark-hearted BiTurbo V10 is a beast, the M5 has always offered a bit more for the driver.

Ever-so-slightly more subtle than the outgoing V10, the 2011 model is by no means timid when it comes to power. The new twin-turbo V8 (which we reckon has just been nicked from the X6) is apparently 25% more fuel efficient, while producing more power and more torque. 431kW to be almost precise, up from 408kW in that screaming V10. Some overseas magazines are citing "sources" saying that the 0-100km/h time is down to 4.5 seconds.

The “production” version will debut in Frankfurt later this year, and judging by our time spent with the brilliant 530d late last year, BMW would have to actually try and make a dud car.
