| Jaguar Entry-Level Model Put Off Till 2015 Posted: 23 May 2011 06:45 AM PDT As you already know, Jaguar was mulling over an entry-level model for quite a while now. The car brand has now decided to push back its entry-level model till 2015 when their redesigned XF is launched. The new decision brings disappointment to anticipating car buffs, but the company’s Global Brand Director, Adrian Hallmark, has expressed his helplessness revealing that the company is wary that the car would have to compete with the current XF. This is because both the models would have approximately the same size and looks. Thus, for preventing the complications in the market the X-type successor for roads will not be available until the enlarged XF hits the market. Being more positive, we hope Jaguar will have more time to refine its basic model and also have more facilities integrated to it during its release in 2016 or 2017. (Via Autocar) |
| Protoscar Lampo 3 Adds to EV League (Video) Posted: 23 May 2011 06:35 AM PDT Swiss automobile company Protoscar has come up with their latest edition of its EV sports vehicle, christened Lampo3. The first generation of this efficient concept – Lampo – was first unveiled in 2009 and was followed up by the Lampo2 boasting much more powerful drive. The third generation of Lampo 2+2 coupe comes with a streamlined steel chassis, a ramified body and a removable targa roof. The electric vehicle is jointly powered by three electric motors that produce 420 kW (563 kW / 570 PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. This electric car uses unique assembling methods with one motor on the front axle, two on the rear axle. The car has rear torque vectoring and four-wheel drive. More details about the vehicle are still under the wraps. But Protoscar says that the 3rd edition of Lampo can race from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. It also can touch a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph) and has the capability to travel up to 200 km (124 miles) on a single charge. Like other future cars of this nature, the Lampo3 uses regenerative braking technology to give back energy to the two lithium-ion battery system. The battery pack comprises a 32 kWh lithium-ion cell equipped with a BRUSA on-board charger which has the flexibility of getting charged from a standard single-phase 10A plug to a three-phase 32A industrial plug. We need to expect the arrival of the car soon, but then the car maker looks like set for just a few limited numbers. Stay tuned for more on that. Check out a video on the vehicle in the meantime. |
| BMW Builds Another Hommage Concept, But The 328 Is A Beauty Posted: 23 May 2011 06:25 AM PDT I really do wish BMW would just get on with it already and build a rival to the Audi R8. It’s so painfully obvious that a mid-engined car like the R8 should have been built by BMW in the first place, rather than by their now stiff competition from Ingolstadt. Remember that beautiful M1 Hommage Concept from 2008? It’s 2011, BMW, what’s holding you up? Regardless, this new 328 Hommage is a beauty. We’ve got a huge gallery of pics after the jump, as well as a few interesting facts about the original.
I’ve got a stainless steel model of the original at home, and it remains one of my favourite vintage cars. The BMW not only looked the part, but still holds the record for highest average speed at the historic Mille Miglia, which was a sort of cross-country marathon for the rich and famous in the 30s, 40s and 50s. The original was noted for its technological advances, almost unprecedented in the 30s, namely a tubular space frame and hemispherical combustion cylinders, which would later be adopted by Chrysler and become famous as “Hemi”. Now you know. Back to drooling over the new one though. Take a good look at that suave gentleman who’s driving, because he’s probably one of the few people who ever will. BMW has no plans to manufacture this car. I imagine the free publicity (hello!) will more than pay for the build. Now can we have an R8 rival please? Ciro De Siena – OverdriveTV |
