I think it all boils down to how desparate we are for GCs, many people here on H1 just want to count their valid H1 visa and multiply them by thier montly savings,
but Irish and many illegals itz a do or die situation they are smart people to knock on law makers door, before law-enforcing people knock on thier doors

If economic recession hits and there are massive layoffs, even if you are in your first year H1 with 5 years remaining, you would be out of status on your way to becoming genuine illegal. i just called DOS. He asked for my visa type and passport number. He said "your visa has been issued in Jan. Call the New Delhi consulate and they should let you know if it would come through mail or do you need to go pick it up"
what happens next ?? how long after this stage it takes to get the visa ?? are there any other checks that could be going on ?? ONCE DOS approves are there any other agencies like FBI, KCC doing some other approvals as well ?? if you know what happens next let me know..waiting for posts..

H1B visa CAN BE and IS given to teachers. That poster may have had the problem similar to mine and that is having spent 6 yrs in H4, she was ineligible for H1. Let me remind everyone that decoupling of H1/H4 time happened only 2 months ago. Therefore, if the lady in question already possess Bachelor degree (as min requirement for H1) and is otherwise certifiable I dont see a problem for transfer to H1 .
the only problem may be in finding a school district willing to file H1 WELL in advance and accepting the fact that she cannot start working on SEP 1st (when the new school year starts) but OCT 1st.

It is just speculation that it will take 10 years or 15 years. Actually past 3 years atleast 50% h1 were used by TCS,WIPRO and similar companies. So those who are processing gc is less. But it may take some time to clear current backlog as we had 195k H1 cap till 2003. If 65k h1 cap is there then it will be 3 year waiting period for EB2 and 4 to 5 year for Eb3. People will speculate based on number of H1s. But their calculation is not including the number of people who are giving up and also many people are going back. But if they increase H1 then the situation may become worse. I think one time releif will be enough to resolve the issue for

Maybe instead of asking for SKIL which is very controversial, we should just ask for visa number increase for a specific period, for example, 5 years. Let us all have a rally to move back to our countries on 4July2008 to symbolically show that we want our Freedom and Independence and never return back.
If all the articles about reverse brain drain we are reading about is true they would do something to solve this GC situation. Otherwise the anti-immigrants will come to see us off while we depart this country and never to return back as H1B's trying to get GC's and live here. This will go into history, 30yrs from now and our grandchildren will read about it. And may be we will get some special pension at our home countries for returning back and helping it to do better.

i got rfe for 140 asking for proof for ability to pay.one they have asked for is a tax return which i have got from the empliyer.the other is an audited financial statement for 2007..i understand that u need a cpa for it.anyone knows if just plain financial docs will do or do they have ot be audited.has anyone got it done?any idea about the costs?

Even while we all suffer due to the retrogression, most of which is out of our control, I believe we can still remain positive in areas over which we do have control, like our sense of humor and ability to get along with everyone by agreeing to disagree in a civil manner. Unfortunately this forum of so called "highly skilled" sorely lacks it. Every disagreement/debate becomes personal and quickly dissolves into a shouting match. It's really sad. We need to learn to be happy for others who are more fortunate and sympathize with others who are less fortunate. We don't have to be highly skilled to be that...just human.

I do not intend to question IV and its members who are pretty diligent about things, are entirely trustworthy and neither have they given us any reason to think otherwise. IMHO the monthly thing does not work. Some people cannot afford monthly payments due to other commitments (some are less fortunate than others). They may opt for one time payments rather than monthly payments.
I think what we need is target oriented funding drives. For example:
What are the objectives for the lobbying effort this year and consequently how much money do we need for lobbying efforts? $100,000, $200,000 or $500,000
By putting collection targets up front we can direct our energies towards that target. I know that every cent counts and every dollar will be beneficial. But if we don't know and don't communicate what our target is we can never focus on the goal. A monetary target for a clear objective is something many people can relate to and a one time payment is more attractive than monthly payments.

We advice not to use this template and form. The message and the organization sending it for their advocacy agenda is very important. Even if you change the wording, people will hardly read the letter. They will look at the organization that sent it and its agenda.

If you email or call your Congressmen or Senator, do tell them that you are a member of ImmigrationVoice so that their office can make the connection to your calls, meetings and emails in our advocacy meetings. Sometimes the response may talk about a general immigration position of the senator rather than a specific reply to your question.

So, in that aspect, Comprehensive/Fixed appears to NOT matter at all. These are just pricey nouns. I can't believe that K.V.Rao's insurance lying publicly that it's a not-for-profit. These ridiculous kinds, stoop to such a level of cheating people with a Indian name on it.
I'm still open for any recommendations here. I appreciate all your comments & suggestions so far.

Trust me ...there is nothing better that that feeling.
I am proud of what I did as a young student leader in 1980 in BITS Pilani. When I see new students from my school, I feel happy that I did have a huge impact on their lives....
But .... I also feel sad when I see a bunch of totally passed out guys, who refuce to do anything on the initiatives of IV.
I bet 90 % of IV members are below 35 years but are totally passed out.
BOTTOM LINE IS.... LET US FIGHT & would not accept status quo. We did not come to US on boats & horseback.....

Does anyone here have experience with commodity trading?
Can we trade in commodities on H1 or L1 status?
Is it too risky like forex trading?
Who are the online brokers offer commodity trading?
Is there a minimum account balance / trade required every month or so?

Education isn't the end all / know it all, when it comes to getting your job done. Thought and those brain cells count. Respect, and the ability to never undermine those who are in the same boat as you, count even more. But hey, do attempt that "Masters" -- perhaps you shall grow up.
