I did a quick search and did not find answer to this. Apologise if this is a repost.
But a co-worker of mine wants to travel on AP. After coming back, he will join my company (right now he is a contractor) as a perm employee on H1. Is it possible and allowed? Can he transfer H1 after using AP?
Our company attorney confirmed that his H1B will remain valid even after using AP. But she is not sure about transfer. I will post her reply once she gets back to him. But in meantime, if anyone has any idea about this, please share.

However, I have not read any experience of anyone who came back on AP and then filed for an H1 transfer. I am EB3-India, yet I dont support the removal of per country limits, as there is a reason for the diversity rule, Indians and Chinese are currently on the wrong side of the equation so it seems "fair" to remove the quota.

He tells me he is a computer professional with over 20 years experience. He was laid off and has yet to find a job. He states: I believe [my employer] has a history of hiring H-1B computer personnel at the expense of qualified American citizens.
I received a letter from a man in Arizona who works for a company that employs dozens of H-1B workers. When he asked his supervisor why so many foreign nationals were being hired, the head of human resources said: If the company has an American and a person from India, both with the same skill set, the company will hire the person from India because they can pay them less. These are firsthand stories from U.S. workers.
I ask those begging for an increase in foreign workers to explain these cases to me. Why are Americans struggling to get jobs as software developers, data processors, and program analysts?

ICICI Bank are suckers. They charged me Rs. 900 with fault on their side.
They raised the minimum balance from Rs 10K to Rs 15,000 from April 1, 2008 onwards. They didnt notified me in email and letter. But they charged 900 to me , stating I didnt maintained the required balance.
I fought with them that I will take ICICI to court of law and sue atleast 10,000 US dollars if they dont credit the money. The next day, they credited Rs.900 .
I decided not to make any more transactions with this CRAP bank. They will very less dollar conversion rate.

Why dont you organize a rally, we will contribute and be their for the rally. We need to do something ASAP. I humbly request you and other core members to organize a rally and pick one day for sending flowers to either white house or USCIS. Also we can balck out our personal information and send our transcripts as well.
Please organize a date, how about February14th, we will get more attention. Love for permanent residency, media will like the idea and broadcast it.
What about hunger strike?
It is much bigger than rally. You will get more attention and you do not need thousand people to do it. If we can have even a handful of people or even one person to do it, it will be great. The expenses and preparation to do hunger strike will be very less.

I'm sure people here dont have that agility and adaptability to adjust in India and China. Though I heard lots of gora are in Hyderabad and other cities that wont be for long term. And without people from India/China IT can't survive here. Much bigger market (than Internet) will be fighting global warming. These guys won't screw their future by doing all these nonsense laws. IV is not just for Indians or for people from any one country/geographical location. Hope you would agree and do the necessary at your earliest convenience.

I completely disagree with your message here. You dont even know what the personal reason for not participating in a state chapter is. I, for one, am unable to join a state chapter, because , the nearest chapter is 400 miles and 2 states away. What good would it do to me to join something that I can never be part of. I wanted to start a state chapter here in my place, but I couldnt find any useful resources on how to do it. May be eb3_nepa has some reasons like it.

The Admin Fixes letter campaign was a good initiative. But, the target date got moved twice, and now I dont even know when the end date is.
May be IV should be a top-down organization. Any organization as big as IV would probably be better served with a Top Team. That team could probably elected by the community. I am confident, that most of our members wouldnt even mind spending a few extra bucks to pay a honarary amount to this team for their efforts and time. Then there will be more structure and accountability and action going on around here.
I came to know about IV pretty late. When I did learn about IV and joined IV, I was a very enthusiastic participant. Of late, I do believe IV is fading away. I dont see so many activities going on around here. Like eb3_nepa and few others said, IV is right now becoming just another Immigration portal. It is starting to lose its identity.
After doing all the hard work to gather a mass or like minded people, it will be shameful, if IV drifts away from its stated aim. So, may be it is time for every member, including core members like you to refect upon things and come up with ways to make this organization more transparent and more accessible for people like me.

This membership group will have only members whose identities have been verified. Once this group is created, IV can post all the happenings accessible to them. The whole premise is influence. Meaning even though the lawmaker (representative) knows that the callers cannot vote or donate to his/her campaign yet, this "yet" is a powerful incentive. They know that sooner or later you will become a permanent resident and eventually a citizen and are already contributing towards the constituency by paying taxes, there will be an incentive to work for the agenda of tomorrow's influential populous. Therefore I believe that it will not hurt to call lawmakers and will make a strong show of support from his/her constituents. Of course, this is just one avenue and other avenues are also being pursued like petitions, lobbying, flyers, campaigns etc.

Finally I am a US citizen after being 10+ years in this country. This is one of my biggest fulfillments and it means everything to me. US is just not home anymore for me, it is my country.

Sen Grassley makes sense to me. It looks like he has thorughly studied the program. If he is really concerned to stop the abuse in H1B program then
a. H1B visa should be decreased
b. EB visas should be doubled
c. Current backlog should be cleared by recapturing visas.
If we are all on the same level playing field, then there will not be a chance of lower wages & the employers will only recruit based on true skills.
In either case, Americans need to be more competitive, rather than just crying that I am replaced by a H1-B. Why would any employer sponsor an H1B visa when he has equally qualified US citizen.
Hope the senator understands both the sides of the same coin, just reforming H1B will not help much. It will result in outsourcing. EB visas should be doubled.

I am a LEGAL immigrant how has waited in the line for Green Card for 10 years. I've paid my taxes, social security, medicare and followed the law. Immigration bureaucracy and inefficiency at USCIS has meant more than 250K of Green Cards within legal limits have gone waste leading to a very long wait for legal immigrants.
Please tell me what I should do - Wait another 10 years? Go back to home country? or jump the fence?
